The Feliz family were Californios who owned a section of land surrounding the Mission Santa Cruz grist mill on the Arroyo de Santissima Cruz (today's Laurel Creek). The 1866 Santa Cruz map misspells the name as "Felix", and the mill site is the small parcel labeled J. [John] Fleck. Rowland identifies "J. J. Felix" as "Juan Jose Feliz". Felix Street exists today, about where the 1866 property line is shown between the "Felix" parcel and neighbor W. [William] Blackburn. Rowland notes an earlier Antonio Feliz being present in 1800.
