The Feliz family were Californios who owned a section of land surrounding the Mission Santa Cruz grist mill on the Arroyo de Santissima Cruz (today's Laurel Creek). The 1866 Santa Cruz map misspells the name as "Felix", and the mill site is the small parcel labeled J. [John] Fleck. Rowland identifies "J. J. Felix" as "Juan Jose Feliz". Felix Street exists today, about where the 1866 property line is shown between the "Felix" parcel and neighbor W. [William] Blackburn.

Rowland notes members of the Feliz family being present in northern Alta California as early as 1770, but lacks a specific date for the first Feliz in our area. No one named Feliz is among Rowland's list of pre-1800 arrivals, so I'll arbitrarily assign the family to the 1800-1809 arrivals category.
