Laurel Creek
From Santa Cruz County history wiki
Laurel Creek is the modern name for a small but year-round stream that begins at the Tres Ojos de Agua springs in the upper Westside neighborhood, flowing out of the Westlake pond. The creek got its first written name in 1769: Arroyo de Santissima Cruz, and was harnessed to power the mission grist mill, built before 1800. After Joseph Majors built another water-powered grist farther up the creek in 1843 - just below the escalona dividing the upper and lower westside terraces - the creek became known as Majors Mill Creek (not to be confused with Majors Creek up the coast). In the 1900s, after both Majors and his mill were gone, the name Laurel Street Creek was used, which was eventually shortened to today's Laurel Creek.
