Eastside is a mostly residential City of Santa Cruz neighborhood, comprising most of the city east of the San Lorenzo River. Chapters seven and eight in The Sidewalk Companion to Santa Cruz Architecture are included in the label as applied here, plus the parts of Chapter six that lie east of the river. Geographically, the Eastside includes alluvial San Lorenzo river floodplain areas, coastline, the hills of DeLaveaga Park and Carbonera Estates, and what was originally the Villa de Branciforte. The Eastside was annexed into the city in 1905, extending as far east as Arana Gulch and Santa Cruz Harbor, where it blends into the adjacent unincorporated Live Oak community. Seabright is a sub-neighborhood along the coast, while Prospect Heights abuts the DeLaveaga Park hills.
