Arana family

The Arana family were Californios, some of whom lived in what is now Santa Cruz County. Jose Arana was granted the 92-acre Rancho Potrero y Rincon de San Pedro Regalado in 1842, but later moved to the area around today's Arana Gulch, which was named for the family. Many Aranas are buried at Holy Cross Cemetery.
