Mission Hill is a City of Santa Cruz neighborhood, surrounding Mission Plaza on the marine terrace above the San Lorenzo river floodplain. Geographically, Mission Hill is not a hill at all but a peninsula of the terrace that holds most of the Westside neighborhood. Extending to the east toward a bend in the river, the peninsula ends on the west at Chestnut Street (the extension that intersects Mission Street and bisects Union Street) and the curving section of Highway 1 that separates from Mission Street at that same intersection, bisecting High Street. Both of those roads were built in the 1950s-60s. The Mission Hill tunnel bores through from north to south below.

Chapter Four in The Sidewalk Companion to Santa Cruz Architecture is titled "Mission Hill" but includes parts of the Westside neighborhood.
