Duncan McPherson (1839-1921) came to Santa Cruz in 1856 with his father and brother - both named Alexander. Duncan eventually rose to ownership of the Santa Cruz Sentinel newspaper, establishing a McPherson family ownership dynasty that lasted until 1982. Daughter "Mrs. Rose Miller" has a separate bio in Harrison.
