Felipe Armas was a soldier at the San Francisco Presidio in Alta California who later spent a number of years as a vaquero in Hawaii, along with his brother Joaquin. When the brothers returned to California in 1845, they bought half (or all) of an adobe dwelling originally built by Mission Santa Cruz. Roman Rodriguez of the locally-prominent Rodriguez family acquired the other half, and the building is now often referred to as the "Armas and Rodriguez adobe". The adobe structure is the main feature of Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park. In 1864, the Armas half of the adobe was acquired by the Neary family.
