White, William F.
From Santa Cruz County history wiki
William F. White (1816-1890, Harrison p.301), born in Ireland, came to San Francisco by sea with his new wife in 1849. The couple moved to the Pajaro Valley in 1852, buying "an interest in the Sal Si Puedes Rancho, in company with Eugene Kelly, Eugene Casserly, and others." The Whites built a house, raised a family, and stayed put. In 1881, White wrote a book titled "A Picture of Pioneer Times in California", under the pseudonym "William Grey". A digitized version is available online at HathiTrust. There's nothing in the book about White's real name, family, or Pajaro Valley home, none of which he apparently wanted to publicize. Harrison extracted some anecdotes from the book.
