Nelson Taylor (1811-1898, Harrison p.249), born in upstate New York, came to California in 1850, and to Santa Cruz County in 1851. He farmed in several locations in the Santa Cruz vicinity, and bought a 10-acre parcel on Bay Street in 1860. In 1885 he bought a property and built a house on St. Lawrence Street (now Highland Ave.). Nelson served as County Assessor from 1862-1872.
