Alfred J. Jennings (1831-1924, Harrison p.247), born in England, came by sea to San Francisco on the last day of 1849, and to Watsonville in 1859. He was elected county sheriff in 1888, serving from 1889 to 1893.

Jennings was a Pioneer Society member, as were his wife wife Sarah (Ladd), son Charles N., and son John S.
