James Hopkins (1822-1911), birthplace unknown, came to Watsonville from Los Angeles in 1860, with his wife Johanna and 4 children. James Hopkins Jr. (1858-1942) is profiled in Harrison (p.281). Junior became a saddlemaker, and returned to watsonville in 1881. "Hopkins" is noted in Harrison as a member of the "Galoot Club" - no first name given. All four Hopkins children and both parents are buried in Watsonville cemeteries.
