Augustus Uhden (1811-1862), according to the profile of his son Henry in Harrison (p233), was born in Germany, and came to Santa Cruz from Ohio in 1856, where he died in 1862. His wife Catharina Dorothea (Leibbrandt) Uhden ("Dorothy" on the grave monument, 1809-1891), also born in Germany, was probably a sister of the Leibbrandt brothers. By 1866, the Uhdens had acquired property in the flats east of today's Riverside Avenue, where today's Uhden Street can be found. The property is shown on the 1866 Santa Cruz map, with the name "Mrs. Uhden".
