Gault, Calvin portrait.jpeg

Calvin Gault (1814-1896; Harrison p231), born in Vermont, came to California in 1849, but brought no gold with him to Santa Cruz County in 1866. Working as a laborer for many years, he invested in real estate. Gault Elementary School, on Seabright Avenue in the area where Gault presumably owned land, is named for him. Gault Street is nearby.

Harrison (p.213) notes that Gault donated land for a Baptist church "in that part of town", and that F. S. Lawrence (p.353) was the first pastor.
