Francisco "Frank" Alzina (1821-1887), a native of Spain, was the first Santa Cruz County sheriff. He was listed as a property owner in Block 2 of the 1866 Santa Cruz map. On that property, next door to his Gonzales in-laws on the mission plaza, Frank built what survives as the oldest frame residence in Santa Cruz. Frank's son Enoch also became sheriff.
