Santa Cruz Seaside Company was formed in 1915 to take over ownership and operation of what is now the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and associated enterprises from entrepreneur Fred Swanton. The company has had seven presidents since then, beginning with S. Waldo Coleman. Later presidents include Lawrence Canfield (1952-1984), followed by his son Charles and the current (2023) president, Charles' great-nephew Karl Rice.
