Vine Hill is a loosely-defined rural area near the headwaters of the Branciforte Creek watershed. The name came from brothers John and George Jarvis, who planted a new vineyard on their hillside land, and became major wine producers. There are still some small vineyards in the Vine Hill Road – Jarvis Road area, but the centers of County wine production are elsewhere and most of the Jarvis hillsides are once again covered by forest.

Harrison's 1892 history has a section on Vine Hill, listing as vineyard owners at that time (in addition to Jarvis), W. H. Galbraith, H. Mel, F. McMullen, Ed. Fitch, "and a number of other vineyard owners".
