Louis Wessendorf (1850-1943), a native of Germany, became an apprentice to George Staffler in his furniture and undertaking businesses on Pacific Avenue. Wessendorf later became a partner and, after Staffler retired, sole owner. He eventually dropped the furniture business to concentrate on the undertaking business. His son Lester joined him in that business as Wessendorf and Son Mortuary. Appropriately, the firm's Greek Revival building on Church Street (built in 1941) is now a Greek Orthodox church.
