Jacob Schwann (1822-1910) was a German immigrant, coming to New York in 1848, and to Santa Cruz in 1860, working as a baker and acquiring farmland next to a lagoon that is is now in the Eastside neighborhood of Santa Cruz that was annexed in 1905. Later named for him, Schwann Lake is one of the "Twin Lakes" of Twin Lakes SB. The other - formerly Woods Lagoon - is now the Santa Cruz Harbor.
