Michael Leonard (1835-1922?), a native of Ireland (probably), was an early downtown saloon owner and businessman. His 2-story building at the northeast corner of Pacific Avenue and Cooper Street burned in 1894, and he built a new and similar-looking 2-story building a block away - at the Cooper-Front corner. The second Leonard Building remains today.

- Note: The Michael Leonard found at Old Holy Cross cemetery, whose dates are given above, may or may not be this man but several Ireland-born and related Michael Leonards are buried there in close proximity.
