George Brandt, (d.1900) native of Germany, came to Santa Cruz from Washington state, residing here in the 1880s until 1892, when he built a large residence in Pacific Grove. Known there as the "LaPorte Mansion", the house suffered a catastrophic fire in 2023 and was demolished later that year.

In Santa Cruz, Brandt lived in the largest of the residences acquired by Phelan, James in 1887 to comprise his "Phelan Park" estate (when did Brandt move out?). The house, later known as the "L. B. Brannicke residence", was demolished in 1942 (in preparation for the Coast Artillery to be stationed there?).
