Joseph Albert "Joe" Hetherington (1855-1900, Harrison p.365), born in England, came from there with his parents directly to Watsonville in 1873. He worked two years for the Watsonville Pajaronian newspaper, and later for several other regional newspapers. Returning to Watsonville, in 1888 he began publication of the Rustler newspaper, in partnership with John Anderson (not identified). The paper was still in publication in 1892. Hetherington died relatively young in Los Angeles and was buried in San Francisco.

  • Find-a-Grave has 1855 as Hetherington's birth date, but Harrison has 1861, and the brief death announcement posted to Find-a-Grave says age-at-death was 50 (in 1900).
