Wilder Creek is one of the many west-flowing small creeks whose deep ravines cut down through the coastal terraces on their way to the ocean. Wilder Creek was renamed for dairyman D. D. Wilder, whose family owned the surrounding land. On early maps, the creek was identified as Meder Creek, named after former ranch owner Moses Meder.
