Nicodemus Andrew Jackson Dorn (1830-1903), born in Kentucky of Dutch-immigrant parents, came to California in 1849, and to the Green Valley area of the Pajaro Valley in 1853 (Riptide CE22). Dorn taught himself to read ancient Greek and Latin, and gave all of his children classical names.
- Second son Marcellus Aurelius was a Grand President of the Native Sons of the Golden West, 1888-89. That organization published the Dorn family history noted below.
- A granddaughter born in Menlo Park was textile designer Marion Dorn.
