Lawrence J. Dake (1857-1921) came to Santa Cruz as a child, with his parents. His brother, Charles Heath, became a successful merchant. Frank had artistic talent, and became one of the town's best-known oil painters. His wife Lillian (1864-1961) died in 1961, shortly after her 97th birthday. The couple were instrumental in founding the Santa Cruz Art League in 1919 (the Art League still exists).
