He was listed as a property owner in Block 2 of the [[1866 Santa Cruz map]]. On that property, next door to his [[Gonzales, Juan|Gonzales]] in-laws on the mission plaza, Frank built what survives as the oldest frame residence in Santa Cruz. Frank C. [Caen] Alzina (1856-1898), one of fourteen children of Spanish immigrant Francisco Alzina, became a grocer and married Lora, a daughter of William Effey. The family business and residence were on Mission Street. A brother, Enoch, followed his father into the sheriff's dept. Both Frank and Enoch were members of the Pilots hose-cart team in the 1880s.
