Notes on the History of Santa Cruz Wharves

Notes on the History of Santa Cruz Wharves is an article first produced in 2012, and republished in 2022 for the MAH Online History Journal. Lead author was Frank Perry, with co-authors Barry Brown, Rick Hyman, and Stanley D. Stevens. The article's main purpose was to correct previous errors about wharf history. The short description states, in part (links added), that: "It has often been written that the Railroad Wharf, used by the Santa Cruz and Felton Railroad starting in the middle 1870s, was originally the wharf built by David Gharky in the 1850s. The evidence presented here shows that the Railroad Wharf was an entirely new wharf and not a conversion of the Gharky Wharf."
