Scribner, Tom

Tom Scribner, moved to Davenport from Eureka in 1964, but was best known in later life when he could often be found playing his musical saw on Pacific Avenue, in front of the St. George hotel. Scribner died in 1982 at the age of 83, a few years after a bronze statue of him playing his saw was created in 1978. The statue was first located in the tiny green space that is now SCOPE Park, which then became known as "Tom Scribner Park". In 1993 the statue was moved to the sidewalk on Pacific Avenue, near where he used to play. Scribner and others created an annual musical saw festival, which continues today. In 2022 the event was held at Roaring Camp.
