Members of the Tyrrell family promoted Seabright civic causes through membership in the "Seabright Improvement Society". Siblings William and Susan Tyrrell owned the property where now stands the Santa Cruz Museum of Natural History. William's niece Kate Tyrrell Peck donated the land from William's estate, and the surrounding area is named Tyrrell Park.
