Jacinto "Jackson" Sylvar (d.1895, age 57) was an emigrant from the Azores and close friends with F.A Hihn. He served on the board of directors for both City Bank and City Savings Bank during the years of Mr. Hihn’s directorship and was a leading stockholder at the time of his death. Sylvar also served as the Under Sheriff of Santa Cruz for many years, and ran the jail on Mission Hill. He built a saloon/residence on the west side of the mission plaza, at the corner of High Street. The street that was later built along that side of the plaza was named for him.
