New Brighton State Beach is in the southeastern part of Capitola, separated from Capitola Beach and village by a rocky headland. It forms the northwestern end of a long stretch of beach along Monterey Bay in the "mid-county" area of Santa Cruz County. The continuous beach continues with Seacliff State Beach. Next is Rio del Mar State Beach (Rio del Mar is an Aptos neighborhood), actually a sub-unit of Seacliff, which begins at the mouth of Aptos Creek. Farther to the southeast are Manresa and Sunset State Beaches, before reaching the county line.
