Glenn E. Coolidge (1902-1962), while a realtor in Felton, began a career in civic positions:
- 1945, elected to the San Lorenzo Valley chamber of commerce in 1945, soon becoming its president.
- 1952, elected to the state assembly; re-elected in 1956.
- 1956, helped to secure state funding state and federal flood control and redevelopment funds to Santa Cruz after the December 1955 downtown flood.
- 1957, while serving in the state legislature, became president of the Santa Cruz Historical Society, and worked for the creation of Santa Cruz Mission State Historic Park.
- 1958, helped to secure state funding for creation of Santa Cruz Harbor
- 1959, helped to secure state funding to establish a community college and a UC campus in the county
- 1959, purchased an estate property on High Street
- 1962, died suddenly in September, at age 59, while a candidate for Congress, Santa Cruz Sentinel, 13 September 1962, 19:1
The main entrance road to the new UCSC campus was named Coolidge Drive, after his death.
