The awkwardly-named Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center is a visual museum devoted to explaining to the public the various aspects of Monterey Bay and the Marine Sanctuary. The museum opened in 2012, located at the foot of Pacific Avenue, across the roundabout from the wharf entrance. An entry (page 8) noting the Exploration Center was added to The Sidewalk Companion to Santa Cruz Architecture (4th ed. 2023).
