John J. Hug (1848-1896) was a druggist who bought a house on Green Street in the mid-1880s, adding to it and then reselling in the 1890s. Hug was the second husband of Agnes "Anna" (1843-1936), widow of Otto Broger (both born in Germany), who established the Santa Cruz business where John worked. That Pacific Avenue business was later owned by Sylvester Palmer. Anna is buried in the Broger plot at Santa Cruz Memorial.
