Joseph Pelissier (1827-1894) was, according to Harrison (p.250, spelled "Pelessier"), born in Paris, France in 1828 (Find-a-Grave says 1827). He came to San Francisco in 1845, deserting there from a French ship. He was working for the Vallejo family in Sonoma when the "Bear Flag Revolt" seized the Sonoma barracks, a month before the start of the Mexican-American War in California. Pelissier came to the Pajaro Valley in 1860. His wife Anita was a locally-born descendant of the Estrada and Soto families.
