Frank Heath (1857-1921) came to Santa Cruz as a child, with his parents. His father, Lucien Heath, became a successful merchant. Frank had artistic talent, and became one of the town's best-known oil painters. His wife Lillian (1864-1961) (sister of L. J. Dake) was also a talented artist, married Frank in 1897, and outlived him by over 50 years. The couple were instrumental in founding the Santa Cruz Art League in 1919 (the Art League still exists).
