Memorial and Biographical History of the Coast Counties of Central California, edited by Henry D. Barrows and Luther A. Ingersoll, was published in 1893 by Lewis Publishing Company of Chicago. Four counties are included: Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Benito, and San Mateo. Although the broad coverage means that each county gets only modest attention, there is material not found in any of the other histories from that period. A number of Santa Cruz County residents were profiled, including Daniel Tuttle, first of the Tuttles in Watsonville. The book can be read/downloaded at Google Books.

Notable in the biographies section is that, compared to other books of this type in that era, more of the subjects moved from one county to another before settling. Thus, a number of subjects spent time (in some cases many years) in Santa Cruz County before making permanent homes in neighboring counties.
