Joaquin Buelna was an early Californio resident of Villa de Branciforte, who served as Comisionado (military liaison) and Juez de Paz (Justice of the Peace). He was the original grantee of Rancho Zayante, but never claimed it.
- Santa Cruz: The Early Years (1980 book), by Leon Rowland. On different pages, Rowland described Buelna as Comisionado and as Juez de Paz in 1818.
