Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse stands on Point Santa Cruz, part of Lighthouse Field State Beach. Although it is a functioning lighthouse, the main purpose of the 1967 structure is as a memorial to local surfer Mark Abbott, son of Chuck and Esther Abbott. The lighthouse design commemorates the 1869 lighthouse that once stood a bit farther out on the point. Today's building is also home to the Santa Cruz Surfing Museum.
