Lighthouse Point: Illuminating Santa Cruz, by Frank Perry, was published by Otter B Books in 2002. A very well-researched, well-sourced, and well-written history of the Point Santa Cruz area and its lighthouse. Includes information on: Stevenson, Jonathan D., Rountree, Almus L., Phelan, James, Pelton, Julius, Abbott, Chuck and Esther, Hecox family, Dingee, William J., Doeltz, Louis C., Warren, Elizabeth F., Ulrich, Rudolph, Anderson, Arthur, Lighthouse Field State Beach.
Notes:
- Adna Hecox was appointed to be the first lighthouse keeper when the structure was completed in 1869.
- Because of cliff erosion, the lighthouse was moved back about 300 feet in 1879, to the inland side of the cliff drive. Remnants of the original brick foundation can still be seen at the cliff edge.
