Jacob Schwann (1822-1910) was a German immigrant, coming to New York in 1848, and to Santa Cruz in 1860, acquiring farmland next to a lagoon that is is now in the Eastside neighborhood of Santa Cruz that was annexed in 1905. Later named for him, Schwann Lake is one of the "Twin Lakes" of [Twin Lakes SB. The other - formerly Woods Lagoon - is now the Santa Cruz Harbor.
