The Pajaro Valley was formed by the Pajaro River and its tributaries, and includes the city of Watsonville and unincorporated communities Freedom, Corralitos, and others. Since the river is also the county boundary, only the northern side of the valley is in Santa Cruz County. The southern side is in Monterey County. Further inland, the river forms part of the boundary between San Benito County and Santa Clara County, originating near the boundary in the southern Santa Clara Valley.
