Otis Ashley, Jr. (1820-1904), born in New York, came over the Sierra Nevada to California in 1846, "twenty days ahead of the Donner party" (Harrison, p.232). After serving "three months under General Fremont" (Harrison), Ashley came to the Felton area, where he built and operated a sawmill.

Ashley, his wife Sarah (Mathers), and son Albert Otis were all Soc. of Pioneers members.

All three Ashleys are presumed to be buried in the Ashley family plot at Felton Cemetery, but there are no headstones for any of the three.
